mindy & xiao xingchen ( @coreofgold )
Tumblr media
"okay - so is it true what people are saying online about this place?" they asked, looking over at the other. "that we're all stuck here and have no way out?" mindy didn't know what she hated more, being chased by assholes in masks or being stuck here.

closed starter for @brckensociety muse: jed olsen ( ghostface ) for: stevie plot found here
Tumblr media
grabbing her locks of hair he forcefully shoved her forward towards the sofa in the empty basement. she had fallen for the oldest trick in the book or rather a horror cliche of hearing a noise coming from the basement as he expected her to investigate where the noise was coming from after all everyone was on edge in this town with ghostface having murdered four victims so far most of them she knew however ghostface was streaming the killings online with the intent to create more of a found footage aesthetic of a film to become famous and superior to the other ghostfaces who came before him including the one of recent who had been conducting their own business by claiming kills which partially irritated him since he didn't want the other ghostface stealing the spotlight away from him as he was desperate to be famous and hoped that everyone would remember this new version of ghostface for his original idea. clutching the handle of the kitchen knife michael myers had used in john carpenter's halloween 2 since it was a sub goal on his live streams and a viewer had donated a generous amount of money just to see an actual kill from the knife michael used. slowly he approached holding out the kitchen knife while narrowed eyes brimming with wickedness stared at her through the eyeholes of his mask. " all alone are we stevie? whats the matter no date night to keep you company? " he cackled his voice masked by the voice changer under neath his ghostface mask.
he was streaming currently with the camera strapped to his chest but he wasn't live streaming live just recording since he was pushing it to two kills a night rather than just the one kill per night. " you know before coming down here to pay you an uninvited visit i decided to meet up with one of your friends. want to know what i did to them? " he snickered. his head would tilt off to one side. " i used this knife to cleave her head from her shoulders. i hollowed out her head like a pumpkin and stuffed it with candy and gifts i think you'd love. i left mindy's head on your bed to get us in the mood after all what kind of person would i be if i didn't come bearing gifts to my final girl. " intending to instil fear in her by the murdering of her friend. unhinged and manic but delighted with how he managed to execute his kill showing it to his viewers. it was however a risk as any of his viewers could call the cops however there was an hour delay to the stream and it was for private members only. " come on baby you gonna fight me be my final girl or are you going to lay down and take it? either way, it's all fun and games for me, stevie. " he moved in closer holding the blade sideways with the blade of the knife facing her.

I've been trying not to, but I'm starting to buy into the rumors of tension on set. It's so strange to me that Manny and the ladies are never in promos or pictures together. I always think of shows like The Mindy Project and New Girl, the cast was always together taking selfies and commenting on each other's instas. I really hope Manny and Christina are pals in real life. Am I crazy?
Ah, so, I’ve gotten quite a few of these sorts of asks again lately, so I figured I’d just answer them all here. Hope that’s okay.
As a rule, I don’t like to speculate on the relationships between the actors or anything behind the scenes between them that isn’t related to speculating about the show because at the end of the day we have no idea, and these are real people, with real lives, and I really don’t like the thought of fan speculation affecting them in the way I’ve seen it affect actors, writers and crew in other fandoms. (I’d love the fourth wall to never have come down really, but here we are, haha).
All that aside, these rumours seem to be predominantly founded on the fact that Manny and his wife seemed to have mixed emotions about the finale and liked some negative things on twitter, and that not all the actors follow or engage with each other on social media.
Which, okay, for starters - this is not a cast who’s particularly active on social media at all anyway. Hell, Christina only even got Instagram a few months ago and has always been a fairly private person. Manny barely uses it at all and has deleted his Twitter, Mae and Matthew both mostly use it to promote work or their friends’ work, Reno mostly instagrams about his kids’ sports games or the gym. The most active is Retta, but even she is really selective about what she posts. I mean, there’s a reason most of the BTS stuff we’re getting is from the child actor accounts or guest stars. It’s also a cast who’s frankly a bit older than, say, the cast of New Girl was in it’s heyday.
As for the promos and pictures - we just don’t get a lot period. We seem limited to one poster every season which always just features the girls, and then just the episode stills. There’s barely ever any interviews, and in terms of events - off the top of my head, the only events I can think of that they’ve done together (or with more than just the girls) is the Gracie Awards, the panel they did after the finale, and that NBC event the other night, and at each they seemed happy to me? Maybe it just feels like we never see Manny with the girls because we don’t see a lot of the cast together generally at all.
And look, tension or not, the cast always speaks really highly of each other in interviews, and multiple actors have talked about what a wonderful, happy set it is to be on - from Allison Tolman to some of the really small guest stars, so I don’t know. If I’m perfectly honest, I feel like it’s just generally a pretty low key set with a cast who is relatively lowkey and private, and some of them probably get along better than others, but that doesn’t necessarily equate to tension, nor does it stop people from being friendly and professional.
But, of course, at the end of the day, I have no idea, because I don’t know them and I don’t know the set. Hell, I’m literally halfway around the world from it, haha.

a story ch 3
Two days later...
James Norman was late for work . The apparent kidnapping of Clara Kingsley had become everyone's favourite topic for discussion, and his mother, whom he lived with, was no exception. Mrs. Norman had been explaining her theories regarding the whole affair, when the phone rang and James had an opportunity to escape. "Take care, Mum! Bye!", he hollered as he rushed out the door.
He sprinted through the streets of Oakwood, trying to make up for lost time with his speed. His boss could and would never tolerate tardiness in any form, and he did not want to anger her from the morning itself.
He quickly reached their office. Roger & Norman Private Eye Co., it said in bold, although faded letters on the sign above the door. James walked in.
"What are you waiting for? An invitation? Hurry up already, James", snapped Mindy Roger, James' boss and the owner of the private eye agency.
"You know, it's not like we have clients bustling in, clamouring for attention, begging us to solve their problems", James retorted, as he settled in and organised the papers on his desk.
Mindy sighed in resignation. She knew James was right, and she hated being wrong. She crossed the room to sit on her armchair. They had solved several pretty good cases in the past that stumped even the police, but Oakwood had been a relatively peaceful neighbourhood for some time now. Not exactly the place for private eyes to thrive. "Business has been slow, I'll admit but-"
The office door opened and shut. Before them stood Mrs. Rachel Kingsley, looking distraught and dishevelled.
James and Mindy got up immediately. "Have a seat, Mrs. Kingsley", said Mindy politely as James pulled a chair for her. "Would you like something to drink?", he asked the visibly shaken woman.
"I'd rather skip the pleasantries and get down to the matter at hand", she responded resolutely, although her voice was shaky. "As you wish", mumbled James and the two private investigators sat down opposite her.
A moment of silence. Mindy mentally debated if it would be best to stay quiet or gently prod Mrs. Kingsley. She turned to James for help. He was looking straight ahead at their client.
"It's my daughter!", she finally blurted out. "I suppose you've read the news. She's been missing for two days and I-I'm so worried! I don't know wh-what to do!", she sobbed.
This wouldn't do, thought Mindy. Emotional clients were very difficult to get information out of. She handed Mrs. Kingsley a tissue. "Take a deep breath and stay calm. Feeling better now? Good. Now coming back to the case, I thought the police were handling it?"
Mrs. Kingsley wiped her tears. "They are but the police don't have any information yet as to my daughter's whereabouts. As a mother missing her child, I feel they are taking too long", she said.
"At this point, I know there is nothing that I can personally do. But I want to put my resources to the best use. Your private eye agency has been successful in the past. Your methods, although unconventional, are ingenious and get the job done. Which is why I'm hiring you two to investigate my Clara's disappearance."
The next hour passed swiftly. James and Mindy questioned Mrs. Kingsley intensely regarding that fateful day. "Hmm, it appears your daughter has a rocky relationship with her father", mentioned Mindy after a while. "I'm sure he loves her underneath all the quarrels, though he is terrible at expressing it", replied Mrs. Kingsley. A few more questions were asked and then they let her return home.
"Well Mindy, looks like we've got an easy case on our hands this time", remarked James, looking quite pleased. "Easy? What makes you say that?" asked Mindy, ever the questioning one.
"We'll interrogate those friends of hers- Duke and Chester- and follow that lead. I'm sure we'll find little Miss Kingsley in no time. Nothing you and I can't handle."
"I don't know James, this doesn't seem to be that straightforward."
"What do you mean?"
"Well for starters, no one's asked for any ransom. It's been two days and no ransom letter. Isn't that strange?"
"...Maybe the kidnappers forgot about that? You know, with all the excitement of the whole incident."
"I really don't know why I still work with you."

On a whim, I decided to go for the opening reception of Mindy Tan’s and Charmaine Poh’s photography exhibition at Objectifs yesterday evening. When I came across the event page on Objectifs’ Facebook the previous night, upon reading the synopsis of the exhibition I felt an instant connection with the themes the photographers are exploring (ie. the female gender identity in Singapore). Maybe it has to do with the fact that I have been feeling down about my recent breakup, but I was energised by how these (female) photographers are raising questions about the female identity in Singapore (which has been talked about way too little).
Mindy Tan’s work deals with what it means to be a third wave Singaporean woman, by photographing the private lives of 3 subjects one hour before they sleep. This hour, in her opinion, is the time when women literally let their hair down and revealing of their private lives (and emotions/struggles I suppose). Charmaine Poh’s project is a collection depicting lesbian women in love, some in their bridal outfit, and many juxtaposed against the backdrop of their parents’ wedding photos.
Although the exhibition itself is small, it was very refreshing to hear from the artists themselves how they got on board the project, as well as snippets of their experiences interacting with the subjects.
I know I would have benefitted a lot more if I had asked them questions personally, but it doesnt help that I am new to the medium of photography as a socio-political art form, plus I was very starstruck by Charmaine and Mindy. (I got to know about Mindy Tan’s works a year ago, and I am new to Charmaine Poh but her voice and thoughts really make me feel that she is a really cool individual) Therefore, I was just a quiet observer amongst the crowd. I really wished the audience had been more engaged, and I felt the conversation with such an important topic was too brief. It would have been nice if there was a session where people can make use of these photographs and stories behind them to have a longer dialogue, debate, whatever. As one of the AWARE personnel rightfully said during the opening, “the way we carry out conversations in Singapore is way too efficient and brief”. Or maybe as an audience I am just missing out on too much of the behind-the-scenes. As the curator, Lily, said, the exhibition actually marks the end of the project. Anyway, it was a good starter for me nonetheless!
Ps: I still have major girl crushes on Mindy and Charmaine! I have a thing for pretty, smart and driven women whom I look up to as role models.

"tara!" mindy was relieved to see a familiar face. "this is some twilight zone bullshit - how the hell did we get from new york to fucking washington dc?" as much as they liked the twilight zone, she didn't want to be stuck in one.

"I swear, if I'm stuck in this place and I remotely see any idiots with a ghostface mask I'm out," mindy had gone through it twice already and they didn't want to end up with any more scars on her body going through it a third time.
